SJTC’s Copenhagen

I love it when local business/programs/entertainment reinvent themselves or offer something new to the folks of Greater Saint John.  This is why I am so excited to see the Saint John Theatre Company launch it’s In House Studio Series

With such an amazing space developed at 112 Princess St. (which has hosted Theatre on the Edge, Script workshops, fundraising events and countless rehearsals since its opening), it is wonderful to see it used as often as possible as an intimate performance space where spectators can be so close to the action.

This week, from Wednesday to Saturday, the In House Studio Series kicks off with Copenhagen, winner of 3 Tony Awards including best play.  According to the Saint John Theatre Company website:

This incisive drama premiered at The Royal National Theatre in London and opened to rave reviews on Broadway.  In 1941 German physicist, Werner Heisenberg went to Nazi-occupied Copenhagen to see his Danish counterpart, Niels Bohr. Together they had revolutionized atomic science in the 1920s. Now they were on opposite sides of a world war – with both sides racing to use their research to create atomic weapons. The two men meet in a situation fraught with danger in the hopes of discovering why we do what we do.

Copenhagen will run from February 9-12 at 112 Princess Street.  Tickets are on sale now at the SJTC building (112 Princess St) or by calling 652-7582. Adult tickets are $20 and student tickets are $10 (valid student ID must be presented).

As I have already said, I am very excited about this… and you should be too!  Check out the great local talent in a wonderful setting. I think I might just make it a date with my mom on Wednesday.
