Auditions for Marco Polo: The Musical (Press Release)

Be a part of one of the most exciting – one-of-a-kind musical theater projects ever developed in Saint John. On October 23rd, the Saint John Theatre Company – in partnership with the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra will be presenting the World Premiere of Marco Polo: The Musical on a gala concert-style production at Harbour Station. We will also have the Saint John High School Concert Choir on board as a background chorus. The venue will be set up to accommodate an audience of 4009, so the production will offer truly unique performance opportunities.

Audition Time & Place:

Friday, July 9 at 7pm // Saturday, July 10 at 1pm // Sunday, July 11 at 1pm
112 Princess Street (SJTC Building)

No preparation is necessary, materials will be on hand. Singing and Acting auditions only (dance is not a large component in the show). 

Call backs will be included in a script development workshop that will happen on July 17-18

 Casting Requirements: approximately 35 – 40 costumed roles will be available
¨      Girl: Young girl who sees the wreck of the Marco Polo in PEI
¨      Old Salt: Her grandfather – who once was involved with the building of the ship in his younger days. He is the main narrator of the story
¨      Donnelly: The Old Salt as a younger man. This is a major acting role with some good songs
¨      Mary: A young woman from Saint John who travels on the Marco Polo from Liverpool to Melbourne. A major role with good songs.
¨      Janet: Another young woman who takes the journey to Melbourne
¨      Physician/Surgeon: The ships doctor who deals with
¨      Bully Forbes: The Ships Captain
¨      Clerk/Agent:
¨      2-4 children
¨      Chorus (approximately 12), out of which come: Whore 1, Whore 2, Danny? Plus other characters.

There are many smaller characters and costumed chorus roles available as well.

The production will also require major crew support in terms of costume and props development. The commitment will be quite heavy during late September and during the month of October

Rehearsal & Performance Information:
Rehearsals to begin in late August with heavy rehearsals from mid September. 
Some rehearsals may require day trips to Moncton to work with the Orchestra. SJTC will arrange this.
 Two days of set up and tech at Harbour station (Thur & Fri Oct 21 – 22)
There will be a Full Dress rehearsal at Harbour Station on Friday, October 22 and two public Performances on Saturday, October 23rd
