Tonight, I’m partying with a purpose.

It is the 4th Friday of the month, and that means “Party with a Purpose!”  Tonight at Pepper’s Pub (Lemongrass), 42 Princess Street, the Fusion SJ Ambassador’s committee – of which I am a part – will host their monthly mixer – this time with poverty in mind.

I love these parties.  They are an excuse (not that you need one) to get together with friends and soon-to-be friends for an after-work drink.  An hour and a half every month that I get to meet newcomers to the city and rave about how great we have it here…  which as you may have figured out, is my favorite thing to do!  And the best part?  It is so laid back…  no pressure at all.

This month’s “purpose” is to find ways to reduce poverty in Saint John.  We are partnering with the NB government to get a dialogue going for solutions to this problem.  Our special guest is Gerry Pond, co-chair of Bringing the Pieces Together (, and the plan is to have a “speakers corner” on poverty & poverty reduction.  There will be interviewers circulating to record Saint Johner’s thoughts on poverty in the city and what to do about it.

I am excited to see where this one takes us, and I hope that anyone reading this will come out and join us for drinks, free appetizers and great conversation!
